New way for families in Powys to check access to Flying Start support

Father holding young child

Father holding young child Flying Start is a Welsh Government funded Programme and is available in targeted areas supporting families to give 0-3 year olds a Flying Start in life.

Families can now check if they are eligible and apply for a place on the Powys County Council website.

The Flying Start scheme provides intensive support services for children aged 0-3 years old and their families. Help includes:

•             Part-time funded childcare for 2 year olds

•             An enhanced Health Visiting service

•             Access to parenting programmes

•             Support for children to learn to talk and communicate

Cabinet Member for Children and Culture, Cllr Rachel Powell says: "This is really positive for families wishing to access support in securing their 'Flying Start' offer. By inputting a Powys postcode families can check if they are eligible. They can then benefit directly from activities, group sessions and additional childcare offerings, available within this Welsh Government scheme.

"Flying Start formalises the basis of a positive flying start for children, within the first years of their lives and gives families a form of early help in order to achieve this. Professionals from across agencies work together to offer this support and guidance to meet the needs of the Flying Start families."

The scheme is available for certain postcode areas in Welshpool, Newtown, Ystradgynlais, Brecon and Llandrindod Wells.  If you have a child aged between 0 and 3 years 11 months and live in Powys you can enter your postcode to see if you're eligible for Powys Flying Start.
