The open day has been organised by Powys County Council and will include teachers from the county's high schools, as well as current sixth formers, who will speak to pupils about what sixth form is like in Powys high schools. It is taking place on Tuesday, June 8.

As part of the open day, pupils will hear about what subject options are available in sixth forms as well how E-sgol and the collaboration between Powys high schools work.  E-sgol is an e-learning initiative which expands opportunities for Post-16 pupils to study courses that would not otherwise be available to them.

Other information will also be provided as part of the virtual open day including how Year 11 pupils can apply to a Powys sixth form, the support and guidance which will be available to them and what experience they can they expect if they become a member of a Powys sixth form.

Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "In August, Year 11 pupils across Powys will receive their GCSE results and will be considering what their next steps are from September 2021 and onwards.

"It's important that we hold this virtual sixth form open day and show those Year 11 pupils what options are available to them if they choose to continue their education in a Powys sixth form."

The virtual open day for Year 11 pupils who attend Bro Hyddgen, Caereinion, Llanfyllin, Llanidloes, Newtown and Welshpool high schools will be held between 10-11am and can join using the following link -

Year 11 pupils who attend Brecon, Crickhowell, Gwernyfed, Maesydderwen and Ysgol Calon Cymru high schools can attend the virtual open day between 2-3pm by using the following link -
