New Developments

Some of the new developments the Commissioning team is working on include:

  • The introduction of a new Personal Assistant (PA) finder - https://caresupportfinder.org/, an online tool to match up people (with Direct Payments) who need to find paid carers with PAs or microenterprises who are available to provide care. This goes hand in hand with a new system for managing Direct Payment called the Virtual Wallet. https://www.myvirtualwallet.co.uk/powysPhoto montage showing a young man pushing an older man in a wheelchair, an elderly woman, two young women, one who has learning disabilities playing with a dog, and a young boy.
  • The development of ExtraCare residential facilities within the county. As of May 2021, there is one complex in Newtown and two more (Neuadd Maldwyn in Welshpool and Pont Aur in Ystradgynlais) are being developed)
  • Working with Community Catylysts Powys, a project to develop micro-enterprises within the social care sector. As of February, 2021, there are 20 people working in a self employed capacity as carers for Powys residents. You can find out more about this scheme at https://www.communitycatalysts.co.uk/project/powys/
  • The development, in Powys, of the AskSARA web pages, in partnership with the Disabled Living Foundation (https://livingmadeeasy.org.uk/), of an online portal designed for people to establish what help is available to residents to enable them to live independently. You can find AskSARA at https://powys.livingmadeeasy.org.uk/
  • Other websites which provide information on Powys services are https://en.infoengine.cymru/  and https://www.dewis.wales/
