Unpaid Carers Financial Support Payment

A one-off £500 payment is being made in recognition of the increased financial pressures many unpaid carers have experienced during the pandemic, and to help with some of the additional costs they have incurred.

Welsh Government have  decided to open this grant for a second registration period. The eligibility criteria remains as below.
The link to the application will be available from 9am on the 15th August 2022 and will close at 5pm on 2nd September 2022
.

If you need help to apply or support around grant advice or benefit or awards support generally please call us on 01597 826345.

Eligibility For Payments

You are eligible if:-

  • You care for someone for at least 35 hours a week and have a low income
  • You are in receipt of Carers Allowance on 31 March 2022 or if they were retrospectively awarded Carers Allowance for that date.
  • Individuals registering for the payment must live in Wales.

Individuals are not eligible for the payment if

  • they have an underlying entitlement to Carers Allowance but do not receive a payment because they are in receipt of another benefit at the same or higher rate; or
  • they receive only a carer premium within a means tested benefit and NOT carers allowance itself.

How It Will Work

Step 1

Powys Council may be able to identify a number of eligible unpaid carers through existing data sets.  Where we can, we will be contacting eligible individuals to invite them to register for the payment.

Step 2

If you believe you may qualify for this support, you can submit a claim through this website from 16 May 2022.

Step 3

Payments for successful claims will be made from June through to the end of September 2022.

Please note, you should register with the Council where you live, not the Council where the person you care for lives (if it is different).
