Brecon High School Project
It is proposed that a new 11-18 school will be built to replace the current Brecon High School. The proposed site for the new school is between the leisure centre and the athletics track.
The project could see an investment of up to £22 million, jointly funded by Welsh Government and Powys County Council. This will see a new 750 place 11 - 18 secondary school built to replace Brecon High School's current building. The school will meet the demands of education in the 21st Century.
23rd April 2018
The council has handed over the Brecon High School site to BAM Construction Ltd and the build of Brecon High School is well underway with the contractor preparing the site for ground works. We have erected the NEWT fences, put in tree protection for the beautiful old oak three that is adjacent to the site and BAM are now fully operational on the site. The site is being prepared for the below ground work to begin constructing the foundations for Brecon High School. The site boundary fence has been erected and the access onto the site is temporarily through the running track entrance whilst we construct the new road which will run adjacent to the Leisure Centre. Once the new road is handed to the contractors this will become the site entrance. The council are working closely with Freedom Leisure and the contractors to plan sporting events safely and making sure regular communication is provided to the Brecon Community and Leisure Centre users.
12th March 2018
Powys County Council are proud to announce the start of construction of the new Brecon High School. The official Turf cutting ceremony was attended by Leader Cllr Rosemarie Harris, Kirsty Williams WG Cabinet Secretary for Education. They were joined by Council Chair and Vice Chair, Cllrs Dai Davies and David Meredith, Director of Education Ian Budd.
Plans have now been submitted for planning approval. Construction on the new building is due to start in March 2018 and pupils will move into the new building in September 2019. BAM UK Construction, the project contractors, are working closely with the Council, the Leisure Centre and the school to minimise any potential impact on pupils, staff and the public during the construction sage. The site will be safely fenced off, ensuring public and pupil safety at all times, and there will be clear routes available to access sports facilities.
Together with Welsh Government, Powys County Council, HOWPS and BAM Construction Ltd a Turf cutting ceremony will mark the occasion of beginning the construction programme to build the new Brecon High School. The event will be held at the new High school site adjacent to the current school and leisure centre on the 12th of March 2018. The event will be attended by Kirsty Williams, the Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Education, who will be greeted by senior members of Powys County Council. Once the official photos have been taken to mark the event a short presentation will take place.
