What is a learning disability?
People with learning disabilities may have problems:
- understanding new or complex information
- learning new skills
- coping independently
A learning disability can be mild, moderate or severe. Some people with a mild learning disability can talk easily and look after themselves, but take a bit longer than usual to learn new skills.
Someone with a severe learning disability may not be able to communicate at all and may need a lot of help with day to day living.
If you are someone with a learning disability, or a family member, friend or supporter, there is information and help available, and Adult Social Care can put you in touch with a wide range of services which help people with learning difficulties be as independent as possible.
