Promoting Independence - Fit for Purpose
Adult Social Care, Housing Services and Highways are working together to improve housing and grounds so that tenants and home owners have improved access and services to their homes, and can live more independently in their community.
The Fit for Purpose project.
Are you worried about stepping outside your front door? Unable to put your recycling out? Or even get to the shops for a pint of milk?
For many older people, or those with a disability, these are daily issues. The council, with funding support from Welsh Government via the Intermediate Care Fund have improved Older Peoples accommodation through the Fit for Purpose project.
The project has made alterations and improvements at accommodation in Machynlleth, Llanidloes, Berriew, Knighton, Brecon and other areas across the county.
The project team from Housing Services spoke to residents and listened to what means most to them, and what needed to change to improve their home and outside area.
The team then brought together staff and services to design the alterations, and work together to improve the accommodation. Everyone enjoyed the challenge of working together to make a real difference in such a short time.
The work has ranged from adaptations to help people move around more confidently and freely in their homes, walk in shower rooms and remodelled kitchens. Outside steps and paths have been removed or ramped, and gardens have been re-landscaped and planted with flowers and shrubs.
