Your rights in the adult protection process

The standards below say what you can expect from adult protection.

1 - Raising concerns

All concerns that you may have been abused will be taken seriously and will be followed up by social services or the police or health.

2 - Decision-making

You will be involved in all of the decisions that are made.

3 - Communication

Every effort will be made to help you with any communication needs you may have.

Standard 4 - Meetings

You will be encouraged and helped to attend any meetings that are arranged to discuss your situation. However, you won't be able to be there while confidential information about other people is discussed.

Standard 5 - Risk Assessment and Protection Plans

You will be involved in a risk assessment in putting together a Protection Plan to keep you safe.

Standard 7 - Support

You will receive support throughout the process with help to understand what is happening.

Standard 8 - Advocacy

You will be offered an advocate if you wish to have someone to support you through the process. If you are not able to make decisions about keeping yourself safe an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) may be appointed to represent your views and wishes.

Standard 9 - Outcomes

You will be informed of the final outcome of the adult protection investigation and, wherever possible, told what will happen to the person or organisation that harmed you.
