Damp and mould
Damp can result from deficiencies in a property such as insufficient insulation, broken windows or lack of heating.
Damp, moisture and mould growth in homes is one of the most common types of property complaint. We can work with occupiers and landlords to help address these issues.

What can you do to help beat condensation and damp
- open windows when cooking
- use the bathroom extractor fan when washing or showering
- keep the property heated
- dry clothes outdoors if possible or in a room with the door closed and the windows open
- contact your landlord if the problem continues

Things you should not do
- Do not block permanent ventilators
- Do not block chimneys, leave a hole and fit a grille over
- Do not draught-proof rooms where there is condensation or mould
- Do not draught-proof a room where there is a cooker or fire
- Do not draught-proof windows in the bathroom or kitchen
How to get rid of mould
Wipe down walls and window frames with a fungicidal wash - make sure it carries a Health and Safety Executive approval number and keep away from children and pets! Follow the instructions carefully.
Once complete, redecorate using a fungicidal paint. Don't paint over with ordinary paints or wallpapers or the mould may return.
