Black Yatt byway improved

Improvements works have been carried out on a byway to stop it being damaged by water scouring, Powys County Council has said.
The council's Countryside Services Team have overseen works on the Black Yatt byway between Llanfihangel Nant Melan and Glascwm.
The team carried out a survey of the byway following reports of water scouring on the surface. The survey identified two main areas of concern where water was flowing along the byway surface, causing flooding and rutting.
Local contractor Mervyn Price carried out the improvement works, which included reinstating drainage channels and installing bunds to direct water straight across and away from the byway surface. The works were completed in March after the heavy snow had thawed.
Cllr Aled Davies, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Countryside Services, said: "The works on the Black Yatt byway were needed after the survey identified damage that was being caused where water was flowing along the surface.
"The result of the works means that the water is being directed away from the byway surface and it now in a much better condition for all users and greatly improves this popular route.
"The importance of maintaining our rights of way network shouldn't be underestimated. Our public rights of way network can play a vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of the people of Powys."
