The clueless DIY expert left an easy to follow paint trail from his fly-tipped waste back to his own front door resulting in a £400 fine.

Powys County Council had received a complaint from a resident about dumped DIY material in three black bin bags in a community wood in Gurnos, Lower Cwmtwrch, Ystradgynlais.

When an officer from the council's waste management team investigated they soon realised they didn't have to be Sherlock Holmes to track down the culprit.  One of the bags had split and white paint and left a 150-yard trail from the woodland area, across a cycle path and down the street and literally straight to the front door of the suspect.

The resident was interviewed under caution and issued with a £400 fixed penalty notice after admitting the offence.
