Young golfers excel at Powys championships
|12th September 2018|
Young golfers from across Powys have battled it out an annual mini competition.
Builth Wells Golf Club hosted the Powys 'Wee Wonders' Golf Championships during the summer holidays (August 8) which saw over 20 young golfers aged 14 and under compete.
The Wee Wonders Championships are organised by Powys County Council's Sports Development Unit and is part of their strategy to increase participation in golf.
The Wee Wonders rules are very simple - the youngsters tee off from junior tees, which are closer to each hole, and each golfer is allocated a total of 36 shots. The aim is to see how far around the nine-hole course they can get.
The standard of play from every golfer was very encouraging and all had a great time. Every finalist received a certificate and the top two golfers in each age group were awarded trophies by the council's Senior Sports Development Officers, Katie Hamer-Grew.
