Notice: Disruption to waste and recycling collections

Learning Disability Awareness Training (Adults)

This course will help participants to understand a values-based approach which embraces the four key principles of rights, independence, choice and inclusion to ensure that people with learning disabilities are supported to live as valued members of their communities.

  • What is a learning disability?
  • Attitudes towards learning disability
  • Examples of learning disability and co-occurring conditions: Autism, Downs syndrome, Fragile X, Cerebral Palsy, GDD, Epilepsy, mental health
  • Barriers people with a learning disability face
  • Removing and reducing barriers
  • Healthcare needs of people with a learning disability
  • Getting older with a learning disability
  • Communication
  • Rights and responsibilities
  • It's my life: choices, risks, participation, vulnerability, relationships
  • What does a good LD service look like?


  • 30th June - 9.30am - 12.30pm
  • 9th November - 9.30am - 12.30pm


There is no charge to attend these courses, however a cancellation charge may apply to non-attendance if sufficient notice is not given
