Leader congratulates Crickhowell

Image of Crickhowell High StreetPowys County Council's Leader has added her congratulation to Crickhowell for being crowned the UK's best in this year's Great British High Street Awards,

The town was named overall winner the Great British High Street Awards 2018 and Welsh High Street, sponsored by Visa and will receive £15,000 in prize money.

"The award is a tremendous achievement for the town and reflects greatly on the county as a whole. I congratulate everyone involved in the competition they have done a superb job," said Councillor Rosemarie Harris.

"Commiserations to Welshpool who were shortlisted in the prestigious completion but did not make it onto the final podium."

Crickhowell Councillor John Morris said; "This is a momentous achievement for the people and businesses of Crickhowell. To sweep the board like this shows that Crickhowell has something to offer to the whole of the UK.

"Whilst we experienced cuts to our public services in the town the people just got on with it and found a way of overcoming this to make Crickhowell a vibrant, successful and welcoming town. I thank everyone who worked so hard to put this bid together and those who turned out in their hundreds to get the town ready for the judging.

Crickhowell High Street was announced as the overall winner of the Great British High Street Awards 2018 at a prestigious ceremony at Lancaster House on Thursday (November 15).  Attended by High Streets Minister Jake Berry MP and representatives from the 37 shortlisted high streets.

"It's a sure sign that, across the whole UK, there's a determination from local communities to keep their high street alive and kicking and we hope this year's Awards provides the inspiration for others to follow suit."
