Surplus furniture goes to a good home

Image of some chairsFurniture declared surplus after the opening of five new Powys primary schools has been distributed to good causes in the county by a local company.

The furniture was surplus after five new schools Archdeacon Griffiths Church in Wales School, Llyswen, Ysgol y Mynydd Du, Talgarth, Llangorse Church in Wales Primary School and Hay-on-Wye Primary School and Clyro Church in Wales School, were opened in the Gwernyfed catchment area as part of £23m investment in primary education.

Furniture from the former the old schools was offered to other schools and early years' settings with any remaining items offered to Llandrindod Wells based second-hand furniture company Piranha who passed it on to a range of county-based charities and organisations across Wales.

The company started operating in 2014 selling on furniture bought through a shop on the town's high street before moving to a 3000sq.ft industrial unit on Ddole road two years later. They now have a following of over 2000 people on social media.

Thanks to the company organisations and charities have received tables, chairs and play equipment that they would not have been able to fund.

The groups include:

  • Presteigne's little People's nursery
  • Llangurig toddler group
  • Rhayader community nursery
  • Play Radnor Llandrindod
  • Helping the homeless Wales
  • Llanidloes High School- special needs centre
  • Hay-on-Wye scouts
  • Newtown cylch
  • Bwlch y Sarnau community centre
