Borrowbox for eBooks and eAudiobooks: Setup guide for smartphones and tablets

Borrow Box has eBooks and eAudiobooks for adults, children and young people, and you can download both to your smartphone or tablet all from one App.

There are separate guides for: Downloading eAudiobooks to a computer for transfer to an MP3 player and Downloading eBooks to a computer for transfer to an eReader

Step 1 - Download the free Borrow Box app from your App store

Apple, Android and Amazon Fire users simply need to visit their App store and search for 'Borrowbox Library' and install the App

Step 2 - Launch the app on your device and login

Open the app on your device. At the Sign In screen, search for and select Powys Library Service in the 'Library' field. Login with the number on the back of your library card and your library PIN.

Your PIN is same one you use to log into the main library catalog. Depending on when you joined the library, your default PIN is the last 4 digits of the phone number we hold for you, or 'changeme' (unless you have already changed it).

If you have any problems with your PIN, contact your local library or email library@powys.gov.uk and we will be pleased to help.

When prompted, enter your email address and confirm the Terms and Conditions.

Step 3 - Choose an ebook or audiobook, and download it

You can browse either eBooks or eAudiobooks.

NB The app defaults to displaying the 'Featured' tab, or 'Highlight' list (depending on whether you are on an Apple or Android). These are a very small subset of the collection. Find the option to see all releases, or use the browse options to search by eg genre, target age group, duration etc. On smaller screens you may need to swipe sideways to see the full list of options.

When you have found an audiobook you want, click on Borrow, and then Confirm Loan. This will take you to the Loan Successful page.

If the item is an Audiobook, you can opt to download in part or in full.

If the item is an eBook, tap to Read Now and the title is immediately transferred to the App. Turn pages by swiping left or right. Tap the screen to open menu controls.

You can find your titles anytime on the My Account page.

Loan Rules

Adults and children can borrow up to 10 audiobooks and 10 eBooks from Borrowbox (from 1st May 2018)

Books can be copied to multiple devices - they are available to download to any machine which you log into with your username and password.
