Frequently Asked Questions regarding 3+ Admissions

Why do the council organise the admission process?

This is to ensure there is a fair and consistent approach across the county for both maintained and non-maintained settings

I want my child to attend a different setting.  Who do I contact?

If a parent/carer wish to change their preference for a setting or change the days or hours they wish their child to attend a setting, they will be required to contact preschooladmissions@powys.gov.uk giving full details of the change

I want my child to access more funded hours. What do I need to do?

If a parent/carer wish to change their preference for a setting or change the days or hours they wish their child to attend a setting, they will be required to contact preschooladmissions@powys.gov.uk giving full details of the change

I want to change the sessions attended. For example, afternoon/mornings/different days. Can I ask the setting?

If a parent/carer wish to change their preference for a setting or change the days or hours they wish their child to attend a setting, they will be required to contact preschooladmissions@powys.gov.uk giving full details of the change

My child has not been allocated a place at my preferred setting, can I appeal?

No, there is no right of appeal as the provision is non-statutory

We are moving within Powys, who do I need to inform?

Any change of details for a child must be forwarded to prerschooladmissions@powys.gov.uk Parents/Carers can apply for sessions for their child in 2 settings if they wish, however the child is only entitled to 10 hours funded education a week, so be mindful that some settings offer 5 x 2 hour sessions a week and others offer 4 x 2.5 hour sessions a week.  The 2nd preference section on the application form should only be completed if the parent/carer wishes their child to attend sessions at a second setting.in order that their records can be amended

We are moving out of Powys or Wales, who do I need to contact?

Any change of details for a child must be forwarded to preschooladmissions@powys.gov.uk in order that their records can be amended

I have missed the deadline to apply for a place. Can my child have a place?

An application should be made immediately.  The application will be a LATE APPLICATION, but will, if possible, be considered within the Admission Round

A child has not attended and the parent/carer has not been in touch with the setting to explain the reason for absence.

The parent/carer application forms states once the parent has decided they wish to secure a place for their child there will be an expectation that the child will attend. If a child has not attended for 10 consecutive days without an explanation, the setting should contact the Admission team who will follow this up with the parent/carer by letter stating that the place will be withdrawn unless the parent/carer confirms otherwise.

Can the setting accept fee paying children after their 3rd birthday?

Each setting has a maximum number (as decided by Care Inspectorate Wales) in respect of the number of children they can take in the setting.  On that basis if there are places available, after the funded children have been allocated places, the setting can take fee paying children up to the maximum number.  However, if the place is ever required for funded 3 or 4-year-old child the place should be made available.

The Powys Admission Team are the admitting body and have the right to admit children up to the number of early years' places that the setting is funded for.
