Image of a group of people receiving awards from the former Chairman of Powys County CouncilSeveral residents from across the county have been recognised by the former Chairman of Powys County Council for their contributions to society.

Cllr David Meredith presented gold and silver kit awards in one of his last duties as Chairman on Wednesday, May 8. The presentation took place at Brecon's Guildhall.

Receiving the awards were Des Lally, Sarah Mason, Jonathan Morgan, Lorna Keylock, Val Morgans, Sheila Mahendra and Geoff Sykes.

Des Lally from Brecon received a Gold Kite award for raising £60,000 for climbing Pen Y Fan 365 times in twelve months. Jonathan Morgan, also from Brecon, was also presented with a Gold Kite award in recognition of his fundraising efforts for L'Arche Housing and other deserving charities.

Lorna Keylock from Brecon was presented with a Gold Kite award for her fundraising efforts over many years for Cancer Research. Val Morgans from Hay-on-Wye also received a Gold Kite award in recognition of her fundraising efforts for the South Powys Branch of Parkinson's UK.

Sarah Mason from Llandrindod Wells was presented with a Silver Kite award for services to the homeless in Powys and Wales. Geoff Sykes from Brecon received a Silver Kite award in recognition of his challenging fundraising events.

Sheila Mahendra from Llangynidr received a Silver Kite award for her work for the Lotus Fund for under privileged children in Sri Lanka.
