Ladywell Green Infants School and Hafren Junior School
The Council intends to invest in a new school building to replace the current buildings of Ladywell Green Infants School and Hafren Junior School, on the site currently occupied by the two schools in the centre of Newtown.
The new building will provide modern, high quality facilities, which will enable the continued provision of excellent education to pupils on this site for years to come.
To prepare for a move to one new building in the future, the Council intends to start the legal process that needs to be followed to merge the two schools in the coming months, with the aim of establishing one new school on the current sites of Ladywell Green Infants School and Hafren Junior School from September 2021, subject to approval by the Council's Cabinet. The school would then move to a new building on the current site in the future.
This scheme is part of a wider development in Newtown, which includes ambitious plans to improve Health and Social Care facilities for North Powys. This development - known as the North Powys Wellbeing Programme - is being led through the Powys Regional Partnership Board, and has a vision to establish a Multi-agency Wellbeing Campus, bringing together a range of services to potentially include education, health and social care services and supported accommodation, to create an intergenerational wellbeing campus.
The Council has recently issued a letter and FAQs document to the Ladywell Green and Hafren school communities which provides further information about the plans. These are available below:
