The future of Powys Libraries
During 2019 we've consulted residents, town and community councils, library staff, volunteers, the Powys Youth Forum and people using the mobile library service for views and ideas to help us meet our budget targets.
You told us that ...
Libraries are valued by the vast majority of our residents
So too are the trained librarians & volunteers
All options to keep them open should be considered fully - trusts, town and community council support, voluntary run, partnerships
You also said ...
Libraries are for everyone, they provide a safe, sociable and welcoming space for many and in particular support vulnerable residents - jobseekers, young mothers, etc
Co-location is fine where it saves money and brings partners together to provide a similar level or better overall service
Libraries function as community hubs already offering a range of services all under one roof - closing them is likely to increase costs elsewhere - social care, housing, mental health
Powys should lobby the Welsh Government for more funding
