Powys Schools Conference discusses education vision for county
25 October 2019
Headteachers and governors have gathered in Llandrindod Wells to help the council to create a vision for education in Powys.
Powys County Council hosted its Powys Schools Conference at the Pavilion yesterday (Thursday, October 24) as work begins to improve education for the county's learners.
The conference is the start of an education improvement journey which will see the council engage with all key stakeholders including learners, teaching staff, governors, parents and wider communities over the coming months.
Attendees were presented with key education data for the county and took part in group discussions answering questions including what actions are needed to improve education in Powys.
Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "Education in the county is facing major challenges which were identified by Estyn in their inspection of our education services.
"We are committed to improving the education outcomes for all our learners but we can't do it on our own. We need our education partners on this journey as we look to improve schools for all while delivering outstanding services to our learners and young people.
"I'd like to thank all those who attended our conference. There was healthy debate and discussion during the conference but it was clear that everyone felt that change is needed to give our learners the education and skills the best start in life."
