A Powys county councillor will be suspended from all council and national park authority duties for breaching the Code of Conduct for Members.
Councillor Edwin Roderick, who represents the Maescar / Llywel ward, was suspended from all county council and national park business for four months. He was suspended following a hearing of the Adjudication Panel for Wales in Welshpool this week (Tuesday, November 19).
The Adjudication Panel for Wales also requires Councillor Roderick to undertake further training to be arranged by Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.
The Adjudication Panel for Wales ruled that Councillor Roderick, who is a member of the council's Independent Group, had breached paragraphs 4(b), 6(1)(a) and 7(a) of the Code of Conduct for Members. He failed to show respect and consideration for others, he brought the office of member or authority into disrepute. He also in an official capacity or otherwise, attempting to use his position improperly to secure for himself an advantage.
The four-month suspension will start from the date that the council's and the park authority's standards committees receive a notice from the Adjudication Panel for Wales of its decision.
A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: "Members under full suspension are not able take part in any form of business of the authority. In addition, if they have been appointed by the council to an outside body, including appointment as a local authority school governor, they cannot act on that body during their suspension.
"During a period of suspension neighbouring councillors will be asked to provide cover on behalf of ward residents."
A spokesperson for the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority said: "The Authority acknowledges the decision of the Adjudication Panel for Wales in relation to Cllr Roderick.
"The Authority considers itself fortunate that its membership has a wide range of experience and skills.
The Authority is thankful of the considerable personal contribution both in time and effort that its members give to the Authority."
