y Gaer: Vision Statement
Vision Statement - Come wake a world
In our history and in our art and our stories, many worlds lie sleeping - to be awakened by y Gaer!
y Gaer is an exciting and inspirational cultural development, a major attraction for local people and visitors to Brecon and a spur to regeneration for the community of Powys. It unites the classical Shire Hall, containing the refurbished Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery and its remarkable Victorian court room, with a new Brecon Library, education and community rooms and a cafe. These complementary elements are harmonised in a unique and bold architectural development blending old and new, fully accessible and welcoming to all.
y Gaer provides event, meeting and exhibition spaces to stir the senses. There are peaceful corners for study and contemplation and relaxed areas, both in the stunning new atrium and outdoors in the beautifully landscaped Captain's Walk Gardens, in which to socialise, play and rest.
y Gaer celebrates and presents the cultural identity and heritage of Breconshire as a place for people of all ages to create, explore and discover historical collections, outstanding paintings, digital interpretation displays and wonderful literature.
Led by Powys County Council, y Gaer is a model partnership project with many other funders supporting this nationally important development and with local partners and volunteers working alongside council staff to deliver services for the community and provide a welcome to visitors from near and far.
y Gaer offers an enlightening and stimulating environment for cultural nourishment, learning, play & creative exploration, meeting people and sharing experiences
