Middleton Street to get make-over?
25 February 2020
Llandrindod Wells' main shopping street could be at the centre of an ambitious make-over to make the street more attractive for shoppers especially pedestrian and cyclists.
Middleton Street, the town's main shopping area, has long struggled for space to accommodate pedestrians, cyclists and traffic and now a new scheme is being developed with the community being asked to help with the design.
Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor Heulwen Hulme said: "We have a real opportunity to give Middleton Street an exciting face-lift and make it more attractive place to visit. This would encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more money in local shops.
"We have a few ideas of how it could look already but we need the local people to get involved and have a say. Community projects like this depend on real local involvement and we are urging residents to get involved.
"If successful, there are no guarantees the plans will be funded, we could see the street which links the station and new bus interchange with the town's Lakeside area, receive a radical make-over. It is hoped this would be funded by the Welsh Government's Local Transport Fund with the focus on people not cars."
We will be having discussions with Llandrindod Town Council and local businesses, but the final design of the project will depend heavily on the views of local people. To help capture local views the County Council is planning engagement sessions in the town next month.
Details of the meetings along with concept drawings for residents to see and comment on will be published in the coming weeks with details of how to be involved.
