Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Volunteering

As we continue to respond to the ever-changing situation, we are increasingly aware of the need to offer help and care to those who need it most. The volunteering efforts across Powys communities in response to COVID19 has been truly inspiring, and we're here to help.

PAVO with the support of Powys County Council, Powys Teaching Health Board and other partners, have established the Community Sector Emergency Response Team (C-SERT) to coordinate and support the emergency response. Through C-SERT, we are directly supporting key health and care services affected by the virus such as domiciliary, residential and nursing care.

Here are some of the different ways PAVO and partners are helping....

Community Connectors

Family and close friends must be the first port of call for any individual who finds themselves isolated due to COVID19. For those who are in self-isolation and do not have family or close friends to help with day to day practical needs, they can contact PAVO's Community Connector Service on 01597 828649 or email Through 13 Community Connectors, we're putting those in need in touch with grass-roots initiatives that are supporting people.

COVID-19 Powys Health & Care Volunteers

We're trying to make the process of volunteering as easy as possible, so there is now a central register where people can sign up and get more information. This register is specifically for those that wish to support statutory health and care services such as domiciliary care, residential homes, pharmacies, GP surgeries and hospitals. Volunteers will be offered appropriate training and support in their role and there are a number of opportunities to choose from. If you or someone you know is able and willing to offer their time to volunteer in this way, please get in touch.

Support for community networks

There has been a flourish of informal support networks and emergency response activities popping up across Powys, which of course is welcomed, but we need to ensure all the safeguards are in place and the most vulnerable receive the help they require with minimum risk. If you are leading or taking part in one of those networks and need help, support or access to more volunteers please visit PAVO's website or contact PAVO's Volunteer Centre directly -
