Help with Supported Lodgings
Supported Lodgings hosts provide a room in their home to a young person and give them support, encouragement and guidance to develop the practical skills and confidence they need to live independently.
Would you like to be a Host? Do you have a spare room? You can make a real difference to young people between 16 to 25. Give them a place to stay with security and support, and help them develop independent living skills to find a place of their own.
Living in Supported Lodgings
Supported Lodgings help you build up confidence to live on your own, and improve the practical skills that you'll need to live on your own, such as handling money, using a launderette, cooking on a low budget etc. It also means that you have somebody there for advice, or just to talk to when it gets lonely. It's just like living in a house share.
In Supported Lodgings, you will:
- Have your own room
- Have a safe and secure place to live
- get support from the person or people that you live with
- have your own worker who will also help you get ready to live on your own and who can give you advice or help.
Could I be a Host?
Yes, if you:
- live in Powys
- have a spare room
- enjoy the company of young people
- are willing to do some training
- have the time, energy and commitment to work with a young person
Supported Lodgings can be with a family, a couple or a single person. You wouldn't have parental responsibility for the young person, but you would give them guidance and practical help to prepare them to live on their own. In return, you would get a financial reward, training and support - and the satisfaction of supporting someone towards independence.
Help is especially needed in Brecon, Ystradgynlais, Newtown, Welshpool, Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells.
