Our Home
Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board in partnership are opening a Therapeutic Children's Home, one of a kind, in our local community and we need your support.
Our home is set within the idyllic rural countryside of North Powys, near the peaceful village of Llanbrynmair. It is a spacious residence with three bedrooms, sleeping accommodation for staff, a therapy room, comfy snug, living and dining area that open out to a large garden.
Our home will support 3 children/young people (Age 11-18) with complex emotional and behavioural difficulties due to their early life experience.
The outside space at our home will be as important as the inside, providing the opportunity for children and young people to care and handle small animals, to garden by growing fruit, vegetables, and flowers; for everyone at our home to enjoy the therapeutic benefit of fresh air and exercise in beautiful surroundings.
As part of a dedicated team, you will create a safe home that will improve placement stability and parenting capacity to support children and young people with the most complex needs to achieve positive outcomes, improve their life chances and social well-being. This unique opportunity in Powys will enable us to support children in their own communities, as part of our vision to enable children to stay closer to home.
Therapeutic Care
The aim of Therapeutic Care is to promote personal change, reflected in changes in thinking, emotional functioning, and behaviour. The team will be trained to be trauma-informed to help children and young people recover from their early adversity by developing greater emotional trust and security in adults.
Overview of roles
You will be responsible for leading a team that will ensure children with complex emotional and behavioural needs are safe, healthy, learning, fulfilled and have their voices heard and acted upon.
The Registered Manager with the support from the Deputy Care Manager will lead a team in the delivery of therapeutic care. You will shape and oversee the effective running of the service to meet the statement of purpose that you will have been instrumental in developing, to ensure that the needs and outcomes of care experienced young people are achieved.
Deputy Care Manager and Senior Residential Care Workers will take a lead role in managing shifts safely. You will share your residential experience, and support staff in providing daily care. You will be responsible for promoting healthy, safe routines and creating a warm, inclusive home.
You will lead a flexible team that will organise, encourage, and share residential and leisure activities that meet the needs of the children and young people at the home. This will include outside activities such as maintaining the gardens, creating a vegetable patch and responsibility for the care, feeding and welfare of small animals.
You must be able to drive and have a full clean driving licence.
All our post holders must have an enhanced DBS check.

Training and Support for the Role
We will train the whole teamin the therapeutic model to emotionally connect with children. Ongoing you will receive reflective group supervision supported by a clinical psychologist.
As a Registered Manager you will already have a Level 5 in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services (Children and young people's Residential Management). You will be supported to provide a therapeutic setting, engaging, and implementing with the Children's Services training team to ensure the right training is in place for your team to meet need.
As a Deputy Care Manager you will already have a Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care Services (Children & Young People). We also require that you are working towards a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care with completion within one year of your start date; we will support you in undertaking this qualification. You will support the Registered Manager in putting the right training in place for your team.
As a Senior Residential Care Worker you will already have a Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care Services (Children & Young People). You will be keen to progress and demonstrate your residential knowledge with your team, supporting the team in it's ongoing training need.
We will provide a comprehensive induction package that will include positive behaviour management, first aid, fire safety training, food hygiene, care and medication. You will undertake mandatory e-learning and the induction will give you the opportunity to get to know your team, policies & procedures, and the home where you will be providing care.
Being part of Powys Children's Services will mean that you are part of a learning community and opportunity to apply to our 'Grow your own' Social Worker programme or Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health and Social Care.
You will have access to online and in person training events such as:

- Community of Practice Seminars that examine issues such as Child Sexual Exploitation
Rota Times
You will be leading a team, implementing, and overseeing a rota pattern that works for the home.
Registered Manager will manage the home in the day and there will be an expectation to undertake some shifts to connect and support your team to ensure best practice.
Deputy Care Manager will lead as a senior on shift as part of the rota pattern whilst supporting the Registered Manager.
A Senior Residential Care Worker will lead each shift on a rota pattern.
This is an example of the rota times/expectations that will be in place at the home:
Residential Day Care Workers will work shift times of 07:15 to 15:00 and 14:00 - 22:00.
Residential Night Care Workers will work a night shift of 21:30 to 07:30.
Care will be provided on a 24-hour basis and the rota pattern will ensure a healthy balance between providing intensive support to young people and subsequent rest and recovery for the staff team.
Residential Workers will always work with a Senior Residential Worker to lead the shift.
The team will be supported by managers of the home and an on-call system will provide management cover 7 days a week.
A rolling rota system will be projected throughout the calendar year, giving staff the opportunity to plan ahead promoting a good work-life balance.
