Powys County Council joined neighbouring local authorities in Wales to show support for the LGBTQ+ community and help promote equality and diversity.

The authority took part in the Pride Cymru event last month as part of the 'Proud Councils' network, which is designed to enable councils throughout the region to work together while promoting services and offering their support.

Representatives of Powys County Council travelled to Cardiff for the event alongside colleagues from Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend, Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen, Cardiff and Blaenau Gwent.

Staff, councillors and youth forum members joined thousands of people who marched through the streets of Cardiff together to demonstrate each council's commitment and support for the LGBTQ+ community in Wales.

As a member of the 'Proud Councils' network, Powys County Council is committed to actively championing LGBTQ+ inclusion in our workforces and communities.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Powys County Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for a Fairer Powys, said: "It's amazing to continue Powys County Council's presence at the Pride Cymru event in Cardiff for its second year.

"I'm proud to have been there representing Powys, alongside many other supporters from the Council and other councils across Wales, under the 'Proud Council's' network banner.

"It's fantastic to see the commitment and support the Council shows for the LGBTQ+ community in Wales and long may it continue."
