Powys Careline Scam

Phone Scam

10 November 2023

Phone Scam
Powys residents are urged to be vigilant as the council has been made aware of scam calls linked to Powys Careline.

The scam is linked to the digital switchover taking place, where some Powys Careline equipment will need to be upgraded as part of Ofcom's requirement for providers (BT, Openreach, EE, PlusNet, etc) to update their telephone system to a digital one.

Scammers are taking advantage of the switchover and asking residents to hand over money for services they don't need to pay for. These calls are not being made by Powys County Council staff!

At no stage will Powys Careline cold call customers and ask for money or bank details over the phone.

If you are concerned, please contact Powys Careline on 01597 827639
