Christmas recycling and waste collections 2023
6 December 2023
Our waste and recycling crews will be spending the Christmas and New Year bank holidays with friends and family, meaning there will be a change to the normal collection days.
There will be no collections on Christmas Day or Boxing day. Planned collections will be two days later than normal from Wednesday 27 December. If your normal collection day is on Thursday 28 December or Friday 29 December, and you are due to have your wheeled bin (or purple sacks) emptied, we aim to do this on Saturday 30 December and Sunday 31 December respectively. Your recycling will not be collected until the following week (when we will accept double/extra).
There will also be no collections on New Year's Day. If your normal collection day is on Monday 1 January, and you are due to have your wheeled bin (or purple sacks) emptied, we aim to do this on the Tuesday 2 January. Your recycling will not be collected until the following week (when we will accept double/extra). All other collections this week will remain unchanged.

* We will collect double/extra recycling on these collections. Please ensure that additional items, which will not fit into your recycling containers, are sorted in the normal way (cans, plastics and cartons / paper and cardboard / glass), and contained in plastic/paper bags left next to your recycling boxes.
We will endeavour to complete all collections, as planned, however, if you have not received a collection by 5pm, please check online for an update: Bin collection day. On Thursday 28 and Friday 29 December we will be aiming to collect double the amount of recycling. If we are unable to complete the rounds as planned, please leave your boxes out and we will aim to collect over the weekend.
All Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day (25 Dec), Boxing Day (26 Dec) and New Year's Day (1 Jan). Centres will be open as normal at other times, please check online for full details of the normal opening times. Please remember that Brecon Household Waste Recycling Centre is currently closed for refurbishment and the alternative arrangements for green waste will not be available on the bank holidays.
"With collections scheduled throughout the festive period, we are encouraging households to make use of the service and reduce, reuse, and recycle as much of their household waste as possible." Explains Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys.
"We all generate more waste than normal over Christmas and New Year, but most of it can be recycled - tin foil, food, glass jars and bottles, real Christmas trees, plain Christmas cards and wrapping paper, batteries, plastic pots, and bottles - we can all do our bit to make sure as much as possible is recycled."
Please check our website and keep an eye on our social media pages for any service changes needed because of extreme winter weather or any other unforeseen circumstances.
Please use the online bin day checker to find your revised festive collection dates (Bin collection day).
