Positive rise in apprenticeships

Apprenticeships

11 December 2023

Apprenticeships
21 people have been given a fresh start in their careers this year thanks to apprenticeships offered by Powys County Council.

Opportunities have been provided in a range of public sector roles including social care, housing, highways, ICT and Education.

The uptake already exceeds the target set for this financial year, with more expected before April. The news has been warmly welcomed by Cllr Jake Berriman, Powys County Council's Cabinet member with responsibility for HR and workforce.

He said: "We are delighted to have been able to offer these opportunities in a range of front line and support services.

"Apprenticeships can offer a fantastic career path for individuals, whilst developing a talented workforce for our organisation with future-ready skills."

Earlier this year, the Council's Cabinet committed to paying apprentices the Real Living Wage - an hourly rate based on the cost of living which is independently set. It is voluntarily paid to employees by over 10,000 employers in the UK.

Cllr Berriman added: "If you are interested in a new opportunity, I would encourage you to apply for one of our future apprenticeships which are advertised on our website: https://en.powys.gov.uk/jobs. In addition, you can sign up to our Talent Pool mailing list where you can be contacted directly if a suitable vacancy becomes available."
