Making a Splash: Welsh Language Swimming Lessons to start across Powys
29 January 2024
Freedom Leisure's Learn to Swim programme currently teaches over 12,000 students this life saving skill every single week across Wales and are delighted to expand this offering further, appealing to the many Welsh speakers in the county.
Councillor David Selby, Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys, said: "Powys County Council and Freedom Leisure share a commitment to enhance Welsh language provision in our leisure facilities. This is an important step forward which I welcome. The Welsh language should be at the centre of everything we do and encouraging its wider use in the community is a vital step to ensuring the language thrives. Providing Welsh language swimming is a great step forward"
Denise Hazelwood, General Manager said "We can't wait to start delivering our Welsh Language Swimming Lessons across Powys, we have excellent relationships with our Welsh language schools in the area who use our pools and this enhances our after-school provision further. Our colleagues are ready to go and we are sure places will be booked up quickly so don't miss out"
The Flash Leisure Centre in Welshpool and Maldwyn Leisure Centre in Newtown are launching these brand-new lessons in February and are taking bookings now, to book please pop in to the centre, call or visit their website:
