Powys Home to School Transport Policy updated
9 August 2024
The draft updated policy was provisionally approved by the council's Cabinet at the end of July and now a short online consultation will take place to ensure that everyone is happy with the updates and that they have made the policy clearer for parents and carers to understand. Following the consultation, the final updated Home to School Transport Policy will be implemented from September 2025, and for 2025-26 admissions.
Cllr Pete Roberts, Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys and Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, jointly say: "The updates to the policy aim to provide greater clarity for those wishing to access Home to School Transport.
"Updates to the policy are designed to align with the school admissions policy and the new catchment maps which are available to view online [Applying for a School Place], and do not alter the application of the policy but simply aim to reduce any ambiguity in the wording.
"We have included a supplementary question relating to alterations in Welsh medium secondary school provision for pupils transitioning into year 7. We would like to collect your views in advance of any further consultations to ensure any alterations required in the policy for 2026 are considered now.
"Your input is essential for ensuring we continue to provide safe and reliable transport for our students. We appreciate your time and look forward to your valuable feedback. Diolch."
This short online consultation consists of a series of questions designed to gather your feedback on the updates. Your responses will help us identify areas for improvement and develop a policy which has more clarity.
The consultation is available online and will close on 12 September 2024: www.haveyoursaypowys.wales/home-to-school-transport
