Bronze success for Brecon High School

A south Powys high school that has picked up a prestigious award for creating a positive environment for Service children has been congratulated by the county council for its efforts.

Brecon High School has achieved the SSCE Cymru Armed Forces Friendly Schools Bronze Status.

Funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, the Armed Forces Friendly Schools Status aims to:

  • Embed good practice for supporting Service children
  • Create a positive environment for Service children to share their experiences
  • Encourage schools to become more engaged with their Armed Forces community.

The status demonstrates a school's commitment to the Armed Forces community.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and Armed Forces Champion, said: "I'm delighted that Brecon High School has achieved bronze status in this prestigious award.

"Their success shows that they are providing a warm and friendly welcome to Service children and are building strong and lasting relationships with the local Armed Forces community."

Cllr Pete Roberts, Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys, said: "I would like to congratulate Brecon High School for their success. To be award the bronze status is a great achievement and demonstrates their commitment in supporting and meeting the needs of Service children in their school community."
