Green Libraries Week
26 September 2024
National Green Libraries Week is returning this year, running from 7-13 October 2024, and library users, new and old, are invited to get involved and find out more about sustainability and helping to reduce climate change.
Of course, being sustainable is nothing new for our libraries or their users. Borrowing a book from your local library, rather than buying new, is the ultimate sustainable choice, as is using the shared facilities such as the computers, printers and desk space. And it's not just books you can loan from your library. You can also borrow e-books, audiobooks, iPad, blood pressure monitors, litter picking kits or even balance bikes!
Throughout the week we will be hosting recycling roadshows where you can find out how to make the most of your recycling boxes at home and help the environment by making sure you recycle as much of your waste as possible and make sustainable choices:
Recycling Roadshows
- Monday 7 October, 9:30 - 13:00 at Machynlleth Library
- Tuesday 8 October, 10:00 - 14:00 at Newtown Library
- Wednesday 9 October, 10:00 - 14:00 at Brecon Library/Y Gaer
- Thursday 10 October, 10:00 - 14:00 at Ystradgynlais Library
- Thursday 10 October, 9:30 - 12:30 at Llanfyllin Library
- Friday 11 October, 10:00 - 14:00 at Llandrindod Wells Library/Gwalia
"We can all do our bit to help reduce our impact on climate change and improve our environment by making more sustainable choices." Explains Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys.
"Using libraries to borrow books, and all the other great things on offer, instead of buying new is the perfect way to combat consumerism and help us all reduce, reuse and recycle within our everyday lives. During this Green Libraries Week, why not pop into your local library and find out more about recycling, and how you can do more."
