A review of Powys leisure and recreation services is being put on hold until the summer to allow wider discussions with communities, Powys County Council has confirmed.

The council has been carrying out a comprehensive review of services to look at the way they could be provided for future generations.

Cabinet Member for a Safer Powys, Councillor Richard Church said: "We want to lay the foundations for a sustainable service for future generations to help support an active and healthy population in the county.

"Our services are well regarded and have been well supported in the past, but the initial part of the review has shown that the existing facilities cannot deliver our aspirations for a healthy and active county, without significant investment and collaboration with communities.

"We are putting the review on hold until the summer to allow meaningful discussions with localities to take place. The views of communities will play an important role in helping the council shape its leisure plans.

"The council is facing significant long term financial pressures and creating a sustainable county is about working together to find ways to protect the future of services which people value. It is about building resilience so community-led solutions can help meet local need.

"Discussion with our localities is an important part of Sustainable Powys and the future of leisure and recreation will now be a part of that process," he added.
