Living with someone who is pregnant? Essential Safety Guidelines

If you live with someone who is pregnant, trying for a baby, or has a weakened immune system, take extra precautions to minimise infection risks while carrying out farm work.

Wear appropriate protective clothing (gloves, aprons, and overalls) when working with lambing ewes or contaminated areas.

Change and wash clothing at high temperatures of at least 60°C, or as high as the fabric allows before entering shared spaces or handling household items.

Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water after contact with animals, birthing fluids, or contaminated materials. Hand gels are not a substitute.

Keep nails short and clean to reduce the risk of spreading infection.

Where possible, avoid bringing contaminated boots and outerwear indoors—leave them in a designated area.
