Canolfan Iaith - Language Immersion Centre

What is 'Trochi'?

'Trochi', or immersion, means the opportunity to learn an extra language by being immersed in that language with intensive or frequent lessons. In Canolfan Iaith (Language Centre), our aim is to enable pupils who wish to join a Welsh school or stream at a later stage (after the age of 7) to develop a high level of fluency in Welsh in a short period of time.

How does it work?

Learners attend the Canolfan Iaith four days a week for a period of 12 weeks. Transport is provided if required. Groups of pupils in Canolfan Iaith are small and pupils are supported by a specialist teacher and teaching assistant. Staff communicate regularly with home schools and parents. Pupils' progress is tracked and support is provided back in the home schools following their time in Canolfan Iaith.

What's it like?

Canolfan Iaith staff follow a carefully structured programme of language learning, with a focus on oral practice and language patterns. The learning is engaging and lively and includes experiences across the areas of learning. The environment is nurturing and inclusive, with an emphasis on building confidence to use the language.
