Review of Post-16 Education

The Council is currently carrying out a Strategic Review of Post-16 education, which aims to identify a long-term vision for school-based post-16 education in the county.
This follows the recommendation in the Council's recent Estyn inspection of Education Services to 'Work with partners to rapidly develop and implement a model for 16-19 education that is financially viable and sustainable, and meets the needs of all learners, and considers Welsh-medium and ALN provision.'
As part of this review, the Council's Cabinet recently considered a paper outlining the current provision, the challenges associated with this provision, and a number of future options. The paper considered by Cabinet is available below:
The next phase of the work is to carry out engagement on the Council's plans to support the development of a way forward. This will start in the summer term 2025, when engagement will take place with school staff and governors, and will continue into the autumn term, when there will be opportunities for all stakeholders, including learners, to contribute.
This is an exciting opportunity for stakeholders to work with the Council to collectively find a way forward to improve outcomes for our post-16 learners, improve the curriculum offer and develop a model that is sustainable for the future. The work remains at a very early stage, and no decisions have yet been made to move forward with any changes.
More information about the work will be added to this page as the review moves forward.
