The Flash Leisure Centre in Welshpool has been recognised for its outstanding achievements in growing and supporting its community, winning 'Performance of the Year' at the Freedom Leisure National Conference 2025.

Hosted by Freedom Leisure, one of the UK's leading charitable not-for-profit leisure trusts, the annual conference brought together teams from across the country to celebrate excellence in leisure services. This year's event featured special guest speaker Michael Gunning, international swimmer and advocate for inclusion in sport.

The Flash stood out for its exceptional growth, innovative engagement strategies, and commitment to delivering high-quality service to its members, with a 9% increase in people taking part in activities. The award reflects the centre's success in making fitness and wellbeing more accessible and appealing to the local community.

Richard Milne, Area Manager for Powys, said: "The Flash team has worked incredibly hard to build a welcoming, supportive environment that encourages people to get active and stay active. This award is a fantastic recognition of their creativity, energy and dedication."

Councillor Raiff Devlin, Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for Customers, Digital, and Community Services, said: "Congratulations to everyone at The Flash Leisure Centre on this well-deserved recognition. Winning 'Performance of the Year' at the Freedom Leisure National Conference is a testament to the team's dedication, creativity, and commitment to the wellbeing of our community. The Flash continues to shine as a vibrant hub for health, fitness, and inclusion in Welshpool.
