350 new homes built in Powys last year

22 October 2025

Of these, 203 were classed as 'affordable housing': properties offered for rent at below or near market prices.
The Neuadd Maldwyn independent living scheme for older people, in Welshpool, delivered 66 of the 350 new homes completed last year. These were constructed by the Anwyl Partnerships on behalf of ClwydAlyn and in partnership with Powys County Council, Powys Teaching Health Board and the Welsh Government.
Only 54 of the 350, were built on sites allocated for housing in the LDP for the Powys Local Planning Authority area (all parts of the county outside of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park). The rest were constructed on 'windfall sites': areas not marked for this purpose, but which were released to meet the demand for more homes.
Over the 15-year term of the LDP 2011-2026, 4,500 new homes are due to be built, with 3,423 delivered by the end of March this year. A total of 946 of these were classed as 'affordable'.
"It's great to see that the rate of house building ramped up significantly last year, from an average, over 13 years, of 236 a year," said Councillor Jake Berriman, Powys County Council's Leader and Cabinet Member for People, Performance and Partnerships. "We want to see this improved rate continue and see many more homes delivered during the term of the current LDP and beyond it.
"These additional homes, and especially the affordable ones, are helping to reduce homelessness in Powys."
