Course Aims:

To equip participants with a foundational understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the skills to support individuals with ASD through effective communication, behaviour management strategies, and person-centred approaches.

Course Outcomes:

  • Understand Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD):
  • Describe the core characteristics of ASD and how they may present differently in individuals.
  • Recognise how sensory processing differences and communication styles impact behaviour.
  • Demonstrate awareness of verbal and non-verbal communication preferences in individuals with ASD.
  • Use person-centred communication approaches tailored to individual needs.
  • Understand the principles of PBS and how they apply to supporting individuals with ASD.
  • Reflect on personal attitudes and values when working with individuals with AS
