Course Aims:
To develop participants' understanding of neurodivergence and its impact on individuals' experiences, communication, and support needs. The course aims to promote inclusive, person-centred practice, enabling participants to support neurodivergent individuals with dignity, autonomy, and respect.
Course Outcomes:
- Understand what neurodivergence means and recognise the range of neurodivergent conditions
- Appreciate the social model of disability and the importance of neurodiversity-affirming language and attitudes.
- Explore how neurodivergence can affect communication, sensory processing, executive functioning, and emotional regulation.
- Understand the barriers neurodivergent people may face in social care settings and wider society.
- Use tools such as visual supports, structured routines, and co-regulation techniques to enhance engagement and reduce distress.
