Safeguarding Religion and Culture
Course Aims:
To support practitioners to understand the key issues of culture and beliefs, and how it can affect their assessment/intervention with Black and Ethnic families. Exploring some harmful cultural practices that can affect the safeguarding of children and their families.
Understanding 'Adultification' and the overall effects on assessments and in interventions with black and ethnic children and young people. Whilst supporting practitioners to address their own biases, stereotypes and developing an awareness of the impact of institutional racism on the outcomes for black and ethnic families.
Course Outcomes:
- Gained a better understanding of how to work with culture and beliefs leading to increased skills level and confidence intervening in families.
- Gained a better understanding of breaking barriers and engaging with black and ethnic children and families to ensure positive outcomes for them.
