The Open Register

The open register is an extract of the electoral register, but is not used for elections.

It can be bought by any person, company or organisation. For example, it is used by businesses and charities to confirm name and address details.

Your name and address will be included in the open register unless you ask for them to be removed. Removing your details from the open register does not affect your right to vote.

How can I join or be removed from the open register?

You can change your opt-out preference at any time by contacting us, using the details on this page. Tell us:

  • your full name
  • your address
  • whether you wish to be included in or omitted from the open register.

Buy a copy

The open register is published on 1 December each year.

The Registration Officer will sell a copy of any part or parts of the open register. The costs for this are:

  • in data form,  £20 plus £1.50 for each 1000 entries (or part of 1000 entries)
  • in printed form, £10 plus £5 for each 1000 entries (part of 1,000 entries)
