Arrange a civil naming ceremony
Naming or welcoming ceremonies are a non-religious alternative to a christening.
Before you can hold a naming or welcoming ceremony, you'll need to have registered the child's birth and you'll be asked to bring the birth certificate when you book the ceremony.
A Naming Ceremony is intended as a celebration, so it doesn't have any legal status. You may also decide to have a naming ceremony to welcome a stepchild or adopted child into the family.
A ceremony usually lasts about 20 minutes but this will vary depending upon the number of readings or other elements you choose to include.
Ceremonies can be held at a Register Office or at one of the venues approved by the Council. If you choose to hold the ceremony at one of these venues, please contact them directly to find out how much they charge and what dates are available.
