Why is Corporate Governance important?

Running the council effectively makes us better at making the right decisions, and better at improving services. 

To make sure we work effectively, we need:  

• Clear communication across the organisation so everyone understands the organisation of roles and responsibilities and the lines of accountability
• Robust performance, financial, risk and information management systems;
• High standards of conduct.

By looking after our corporate governance, we can make sure that we're able to provide high-quality services and to keep making them better. We can also monitor all our systems to avoid serious problems.   

We also know that making sure we're open, honest and accountable means that the public will trust us and want to work with us.
