School Road Safety Schemes

Please contact your child's school for information on the road safety education they have planned.

Pre-school

The Road Safety Unit offers Powys pre-school settings road safety sessions designed specifically for pre-school age children. Sessions include stories, games and activities which have proved to be memorable for the children, as well as information to take home to help parents reinforce the road safety message.

To arrange a road safety session for your pre-school setting please get in touch using the contact details on this page.

Primary schools

Kerbcraft

Kerbcraft is practical pedestrian training for children aged 5-7. The scheme aims to teach children by means of practical training rather than lessons in the classroom with training delivered by volunteers from within the school community.

If you would like to become a Kerbcraft volunteer, please get in touch using the contact details on this page.

Cycle Training

National Standards cycle training is offered to certain schools in Powys. Please email road.safety@powys.gov.uk for further information.

Secondary Schools

Road safety education is offered to all secondary schools in Powys. Covering topics such as drink and drug driving, distractions and bus safety, these lessons are part of the PHSE syllabus. Lessons are carried out throughout the year and for all year groups.

As well as road safety education, secondary schools are also offered the opportunity to host a performance from a touring theatre company that specialises in educational theatre. Performances are gritty and hard-hitting, driving home the message that road safety applies to everyone.
