Being prepared for an emergency

What's in your grab bag?

Traditional advice on 'grab bags' was for wind up radios and torches, first aid kits and enough bottled water and dry packed food for a few days. We will aim to make sure we look after you and won't leave you to fend for yourselves, but there are a few things you might consider.

In addition to your phone (don't forget the charger), keys and wallet there are certain things you don't want to be without for long.

A plan: Have you thought about where you might go, who you might stay with? Is there space for the pets? Have you told anyone where you are going or how to contact you so we can get you back when it's all over? Do you know how to turn everything off before you leave?

Current medication: if you keep this in one place it is easier to take with you in a hurry

Phonebook: are all your important numbers in your phone?

A pen and paper: there will be a lot of information coming your way

Toiletries: don't forget the toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary wear

Childcare: if you've got children, you'll need supplies for them and something to entertain them

Petcare: pet carrier or lead, food, waste bags

Important documents: keep copies in a waterproof bag; e.g. Passport, birth certificate, insurance documents.
