Automatic Registrations Pilots

Welsh Government has introduced Automatic Voter Registration.  Powys is one of four local authorities across Wales taking part in this automatic voter registration pilot, helping make democratic participation more accessible and inclusive.

Data will be used to identify eligible voters and automatically registered for Senedd and local elections in Wales, making it the first devolved nation in the UK to trial registering voters automatically.  Potential electors identified through the pilots will receive notification letters explaining the process and their options.

This is for Senedd and Local elections ONLY.

Are you eligible to vote in Senedd and local government elections

Are you:

  • You are at least 16 years old (but you can be registered if you are at least 14 years old).
  • You live in Wales.
  • You are a British, Irish, or EU citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or a qualifying foreign citizen.

You will still need to register separately for other types of elections, including UK Parliamentary and Police and Crime Commissioner elections.  We would encourage you to go to www.gov.uk/registertovote and register at the earliest opportunity.

By completing an online application, you will:

  • be registered to vote for all elections you are entitled to;
  • appear on the electoral register sooner;
  • be able to vote at any by-elections that may occur prior to automatic registration, providing your application is made 12 working days before the by-election; and
  • stop any further correspondence asking you to register to vote for UK Parliamentary and PCC elections.

Your credit status can be impacted by not being included on register of electors.
